Bruno Grimmek

Reconstruction of Hotel Bristol, 1950

Shortly after the foundation of the two German states, GDR and FRG, following the Berlin blockade and the initiation of the Marshall Plan, Senate Director of Building Bruno Grimmek produced charts and ground plans for the reconstruction of Hotel Bristol at Hardenbergstraße 21-24 in Berlin-Charlottenburg. However, his designs were not implemented. Five years later, in cooperation with the relevant American authorities, Grimmek was able to realise the “Amerika Haus” on the same plot.

The Berlinische Galerie has maintained the estate of architect Bruno Grimmek since 2009.
The collection includes: plans, drawings, sketches, photographs and archive material (ca. 900 items)
