Named after the art historian, middleman in art, founder and first curator of the Berlinische Galerie, this scholarship for young artists was awarded for the first time in 2000. The Stiftung Preußische Seehandlung with financial support of the Berlinische Galerie and the Berlin Hyp founded it.
Following the ideas of Eberhard Roters it encourages the fine arts in Germany today. Every two years, the “Eberhard-Roters-Stipendium“ is meant to be a prize and motivation for artists who successfully and promisingly work in the categories of painting, graphic art, sculpture, photography, performance art, installation art, and conceptual art.
The endowment of 15.000 Euros covers a scholarship of 12 months for the development of the laureate’s profession and a certain budget for the purchase of one of his works for the collection of the Berlinische Galerie.
Due to renovation temporarily closed from 1 July 2014, reopening in spring 2015
