GASAG Art Prize
In cooperation with the Berlinische Galerie the GASAG arranges the GASAG Art Prize. Within this cooperation between the Berlinische Galerie and the GASAG, the GASAG Art Prize is subject to thematic criteria during its selection process and operates on the interface between art and science. It has long been an important aspect of artistic work to question, assimilate and employ scientific methods and research processes and to implement them in forms of personal expression, thus stimulating further thought. A kind of “GASAG laboratory” emerges at the Berlinische Galerie as a result, promoting artistic and scientific creativity. For the company, the aim of this reorientation is to enhance the reputation of the GASAG Art Prize and attract more public attention, while consolidating artistic positions in the Berlinische Galerie.
The new concept of the GASAG Art Prize focuses on the intertwining of art, technology and science. The prize is endowed with ca. 10,000 EUR, which includes an acquisition of 4,000 EUR. It is awarded to an artist working in Berlin who has already developed his or her profile in the field. Suggestions for selection are collected from curators in Berlin, who are most familiar with the Berlin art scene. Already in the year before the show a jury consisting of art theorists, scientists and artists who are familiar with the abovementioned thematic field names the prize winner from among these suggestions. The prize-winner will be awarded an exhibition including a catalogue at the Berlinische Galerie, for which he/she will produce a new work.
