Since 1996, the cultural affairs department of the Berlin Senate has awarded the Hannah Höch Prize for a lifetime of achievement in the arts.
Candidates for this award are visual artists aged 60 and older whose life and work has been heavily influenced by Berlin. Consistently high-caliber work that has not yet been publicly honored is the decisive factor in the choice of recipients.

The Fine Arts Funding Commission of the Berlin Senate’s cultural affairs department makes the selection each year. It is not possible to apply for the award.

The award includes prize money of €15,000. It also entails an artistic project or exhibition and a catalogue involving, whenever possible, the Berlinische Galerie, the Stiftung Stadtmuseum (Berlin City Museum), the Kupferstichkabinett (Museum of Prints and Drawings), or the Neuer Berliner Kunstverein (New Berlin Art Association).
The award ceremony takes place each year in November, marking the birthday of Hannah Höch.
