SILVIA BREITWIESER, MESSAGES – THE BERLIN MESSAGE, A TRAJECTORY, 1996/1997
32 Signposts, hot-dip galvanized Iron / plastic-coated Aluminium / Text
Berlinische Galerie, Landesmuseum für Moderne Kunst, Fotografie und Architektur
On permanent loan from the artist
In 1997, the artist asked 30 German museums for a statement on the status of the arts - a mirror for cultural understanding from present to future. These “messages from muses and museums” resemble a “wall- and windowless art gallery: a transparent museum of the future.” Today they mark the way from the Jewish Museum to the forecourt of the Berlinische Galerie along the street “Am Berlin Museum.” On one side of the sign is the statement and on the other the origin. Stimulating both eye and mind, the project is a “model of open communication that reflects the general conditions of art.” It is the best preparation for an exciting museum visit.
