Atelier Bunter Jakob

The studio for children

Atelier Bunter Jakob is a very special place. It is an art studio deep inside the museum, and it provides a space for children and teenagers to do creative work. There are workshops, open studios, holiday projects and birthday parties, and all the courses and programmes start in the exhibition. Artists join the discussions about what art actually is and why it matters to us. We explore art and reality in exciting, productive ways.

In the Atelier you can put your own ideas into practise: experiment with colours, shapes and materials, draw, splash and print, brew your own paints, make a cartoon film or build a sculpture. The most important thing, always, is experimenting and having fun with art.

An experienced team of artists

The courses in Atelier Bunter Jakob are run by painters, sculptors, photo and video artists with many years of experience in working with children and teenagers. They are enthusiastic teachers with an authentic understanding for the techniques and content of modern and contemporary art. They use current methods to impart knowledge and the skills youngsters need to acquire it.

The programmes at Atelier Bunter Jakob are devised and implemented by the non-profit organisation Jugend im Museum on behalf of the Berlinische Galerie.
